In December 2024, CELLFIL joined ECOSYSTEX, the European Community of Practice for a Sustainable Textile Ecosystem, to collaborate with other EU projects in the textile sustainability and circularity field. With over 50 EU-funded member projects focusing on textile sustainability, ECOSYSTEX was launched in early 2023 with a mission to accelerate collaboration in this area.

A joint initiative of the European Commission’s Research Executive Agency (REA), the European Health and Digital Executive Agency (HaDEA), and the Circular-Biobased Europe Joint Undertaking, and facilitated by the Textile ETP, this new network of textile circularity projects aims to create a long-term community of practice and a central knowledge hub for the practical application of EU-funded science and technology in textile sustainability.

As a member project, CELLFIL contributes to the work of the ECOSYSTEX Steering Committee and will actively engage in interproject collaboration, policymaker engagement, and the dissemination of project results.

Launched in June 2024, the CELLFIL project is in the early stages of its journey toward driving innovation across the textile value chain. The project aims to foster the adoption of eco-friendly cellulosic Lyocell filament, facilitating its upscaling in the European market as a sustainable alternative to harmful synthetic fibers.

In collaboration with 15 leading European industry partners and research institutions, CELLFIL will optimize the entire fabric production process and its intermediate stages. The project aims to replace synthetic fibers with environmentally friendly Lyocell filaments, designed for use in recyclable end applications. Through this innovative approach, CELLFIL is dedicated to developing and utilizing alternative raw material sources for textiles.
