These innovative filaments are designed to replace today’s synthetic fibers.

At the core of CELLFIL lies a collaborative, science‑driven framework that optimizes the entire textile production process. From raw material sourcing to filament manufacturing, yarn functionalization, fabric development, and final application testing, the project integrates advanced technologies to improve sustainability, performance, and process efficiency across the production value chain.

During the project, CELLFIL will design, develop, and validate nine prototype products across three key sectors: performance wear, automotive textiles, and technical textiles & reinforcements. These demonstrators will show how lyocell filament yarns and fabrics can deliver high performance, full recyclability, and reduced environmental impact, proving their viability as alternatives to fossil‑based synthetics.

Beyond technological innovation, CELLFIL establishes the foundations for market uptake and large‑scale production. Through life‑cycle assessments (LCA & S-LCA), techno‑economic analyses, and social studies, the project generates evidence‑based pathways that support the transition to a circular textile economy.

During the project, nine prototype products will be developed across three categories: Performance Wear, Automotive Textiles, and Technical Textiles and Reinforcements. This process will involve designing, developing, and validating end-use textile applications that utilize optimized Lyocell filament yarns and fabrics with enhanced recyclability.
