Hochschule Niederrhein (HSNR) is leading the charge in sustainable textile innovation in Germany. Home to over 13,000 students, HSNR’s Faculty of Textile and Clothing Technology is one of Europe’s largest and most prestigious, training the next generation of textile engineers through cutting-edge programs offered in both English and German.
The university’s Research Institute for Textile and Clothing (FTB) plays a pivotal role in advancing textile research, providing state-of-the-art testing, lab-scale development, and technology transfer to support both local and international industries.
As part of the CELLFIL project, HSNR is spearheading critical research into Lyocell Filament Yarn (LFY) technology, with a focus on lab-scale testing, fabric construction, and the development of high-performance, sustainable textiles. Their expertise in innovative weaving techniques and yarn types is central to exploring new possibilities for circular textile solutions across diverse industries, from fashion to automotive textiles. By testing new yarn combinations and exploring sustainable production methods, HSNR is helping shape the future of textile engineering and pushing the boundaries of circular economy principles.
The CELLFIL consortium is a diverse collaboration of partners from across Europe, including six EU member states, Turkey, and Switzerland. It brings together feedstock suppliers, textile manufacturers, lyocell filament producers, and industry leaders in automotive and sportswear. With expertise in lyocell filament production, yarn functionalization, and sustainability, the consortium is driving innovative, circular textile solutions.
