POLICY DISCUSSION – EU´s Bioeconomy Strategy and textile regulations

Join us for a hybrid public policy discussion on 29 September 2026, taking place in Riga and online, focused on the European Union’s evolving policy landscape for the bioeconomy and sustainable textiles.
During this policy session, we will hear presentations linked to the European Union’s Bioeconomy Strategy and how companies are approaching it. ECOSYSTEX with ETP has developed an innovation strategy to drive the development and adoption of bioeconomy innovation in the European fibers, textiles, and apparel industry, structured around four strategic building blocks and aligned with the EU Strategy for Sustainable and Circular Textiles and the newly adopted EU Bioeconomy Strategy. The CELLFIL project will present companies’ views on the Bioeconomy Strategy, the opportunities and challenges they foresee, and the policy support needed to help bio-based industries scale up in Europe. We will also hear companies’ insights on transitioning to bio-based materials and advancing textile circularity, as well as how to implement the EU’s strategies in practice. You are welcome to join and take part in this discussion.
Programme
Opening of the session
• Bioeconomy strategy by European Union
Presentations
• Textile Bioeconomy Strategy Paper, ECOSYSTEX & Textile ETP
• From strategy to scale-up: What the bio-based sector needs from the EU bioeconomy strategy, CELLFIL

Panel discussion in which the audience will have a chance to participate and ask questions.
• How can we enhance the use of bio-based materials in European industry?
• How can policy support—or inadvertently hinder—the transition to bio-based materials?
• How do the circular economy and bioeconomy strategies overlap?
Organised by the CELLFIL project, the event will feature the presentation of CELLFIL’s first policy paper, followed by expert presentations and a panel discussion exploring the opportunities and challenges shaping the future of sustainable and bio-based textiles in Europe.
We warmly encourage stakeholder participation. Attendees, whether joining in person or online, will have the opportunity to share their views, contribute to the discussion, and provide feedback on ongoing policy initiatives that will help shape the future of the European bio-based textile sector.
